Agama’s Advanced Yoga Therapy Training (AYTT) is a rigorous, 10 week training program that allows graduates to transmit the healing power of Yoga and natural therapies to the world. This 500 hour course, which adheres to the strict educational and accreditation standards of the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), synthesizes a holistic and practical concept of wellness in the context of integrative Yoga Therapy.
The training received through the program enables graduated Yoga Therapy Teachers to work in unlimited healthcare settings with the niche expertise to develop Yoga-based wellness programs targeting stress reduction, cardiac problems, emotional well-being, musculoskeletal conditions, and many other areas.
The AYTT prepares its participants to develop therapeutic Yoga programs for one-on-one or group sessions. The training received through the program enables graduates to work in complementary healthcare settings with the expertise to develop Yoga-based wellness programs targeting stress reduction, cardiac problems, emotional well-being, musculoskeletal conditions, and many other areas. Each participant’s private Yoga practice will be upgraded and diversified in the therapeutic domain, lending skills that are more and more frequently sought by therapists, healers, and other specialized medical professionals.
The AYTT’s core training curriculum includes emphasis on:
- Yoga foundations
- Biomedical, anatomical, and psychological functions in the human being
- Yoga Therapy in practice, including practicum training and program creation
- Teaching and therapeutic skills necessary for the correct attitude and proper role of a Therapeutic Yoga Teacher
Participants will be guided throughout the program in training that includes special attention on the following subjects:
- Stress reduction and stress-induced diseases
- Maintaining good general health, with emphasis on the prevention of disease and degeneration and the promotion of remedies for harmonious aging
- Emotional health, depression, panic attacks, and anxiety
- Rehabilitation and addiction problems
- Cardiovascular stress and high blood pressure
- Some particularly difficult-to-treat pathological conditions such as:
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or related syndromes
- Chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia
- Multiple sclerosis
- Spinal misalignments and joint problems
- The side effects of chemotherapy or surgery
- Complementary treatment of serious chronic diseases including cancer and AIDS
- Plus many others
This intensive course is for anyone who has experienced the healing power of Yoga and natural therapies and wants to bring this magic to the world, sharing the ancient wisdom that facilitates restored health and enhanced vitality. Become a better therapist, a more-informed Yoga teacher, or broaden your expertise into healing for body, mind, and soul.
Through this training, participants become Yoga Therapy Teachers. Certification as a Yoga Therapist requires an additional 300 hours of study over two years. Please see our Yoga Therapy Certification page for more details.
The AYTT is a standalone teacher training program, which also forms a mandatory element of Agama’s Yoga Therapy Certification (YTC), an 800-hour Yoga therapist training program.
Documented completion of a 200-hour Yoga teacher training course (any style) through a Yoga Alliance-registered school or program
One year of Yoga teaching experience, with substantiation of in-class or workshop participation hours
One year of Yoga practice with a demonstrated commitment to your own personal practice and an understanding of the professional nature of Yoga Therapy
After admission to the AYTT and before enrollment begins (prior to the course start), a participant must complete the following:
Full attendance of the Agama First Level Intensive Course. AYTT participants are free to choose the pace and location of participation in Level 1, but it must be completed prior to the course start date. Students will need to provide a copy or scan of the Level 1 achievement certificate provided at graduation.
Demonstration of basic anatomical knowledge as specified by Yoga Alliance certification standards. Refreshing one’s basic anatomical knowledge is advised with up to 10 hours of personal study. After registration, an anatomy textbook will be made available for purchase if you would like to refresh your prior instruction.
An entry-level assessment exam, scheduled to evaluate participants’ basic Yogic and anatomical knowledge. Hours will be credited toward the complete AYTT Certification. Details of this exam will be provided in the acceptance letter.
Placement via Transfer Credit
Experienced Yoga teachers and health professionals with qualifications and experience in the healthcare and wellness fields may apply to have their prior skills and expertise recognized for credit. Requests for an assessment should be directed to the AYTT Coordinator at email@example.com . In such cases, the involvement of an advanced YTC teacher may be necessary and will be established on a case-by-case basis.
