VERED "ROSIE" SHIKMAN

Cancerian Vered, or Rosie as she is known at Agama, was born in Israel on 7.7.77. While still very young, she began to study gymnastics, which helped to inculcate in her a powerful awareness of the potentialities of the physical body. She also gained a fondness and aptitude for everything involving physical exercise, movement, and rhythm, which only intensified as she grew up. At the same time, she studied classical piano for a number of years, which did a great deal to awaken her soul and enhance her sensitivity to, and love for, music in general.

In 2001, she began several years of studying Ashtanga Yoga. This certainly served to strengthen her body and render it more flexible, but it was a Yoga method that Rosie has since acknowledged always left her with an undefined sense that something was nevertheless lacking.

In 2005, she realized a long-held dream to travel to the Far East and took off for an entire year, most of which was spent in India. There, she very actively searched for a place where she could engage in a comprehensive study of Yoga in all its aspects, but encountered only sporadic Yoga teachers offering classes in stretching, gymnastics, and breathing techniques. It was in India, though, that she was exposed for the first time to meditation, when she attended a 10-day Vipassana course. She has since attended several other meditation retreats.

In January, 2006, fate decided that, just prior to finally completing her long trek and flying back to Israel, she would go visit her best buddy, Mike Altmann, who happened to be studying Yoga with Agama on Koh Phangan and who persuaded her to give it a try, too. That trial was eminently successful for, after just a single day of lessons, Rosie realized that all along - and without clearly having understood it - she had harbored a yearning to absorb and try out precisely the very kind of theoretical and practical information being taught at Agama. Since then, Rosie has been practicing and studying Yoga as taught at Agama.

In January, 2007, she enrolled in the Agama Teachers Training Course and, shortly after completing that course, began teaching for Agama, first in Thailand and then in Israel.

Rosie is grateful for the knowledge and skills with which Agama has endowed her and regards it as a rare privilege and true vocation to pass these teachings on to others. In particular, she appreciates Agama for the sheer usefulness of its philosophies of life, for its unique cleansing and purification procedures, and for the endlessly uplifting manner in which it integrates body, soul, mind, and spirit. Thanks to constant practice of the Yoga techniques, allied with changes in nutrition, Rosie has managed to rid herself of various chronic ailments that had bothered her for many years.
