Born in Germany in 1968, Heidrun grew up with a traditional Catholic background. The constant presence of the divine was, therefore, an accepted fact of her life, with the basic question being how to experience this presence.
During her time at university she came in touch with Chögyam Trungpa’s Shambhala lineage, where she started to join meditation retreats regularly. During that time she also took Yoga classes. Being a rather “brainy” person, she deeply enjoyed the asana practice but it was only after she met Swami Vivekananda that she learned to utilize her vitality in combination with her brain for her spiritual unfoldment.
After taking a diploma in Biology specializing in scientific research and a degree as a high school Biology and Geography teacher, she felt the deep need to add more sense to life and took off to travel Asia in the quest for wisdom. The quest meanwhile turned into a form of life and she has been traveling for the last 12 years, joining meditation retreats, taking teachings from different traditions, occasionally going back to Europe to earn money in order to continue her studies.
She “stumbled” into Agama in 2002 and immediately felt that these teachings would make a real difference in her life. So she canceled her travel plans and immersed herself in Agama-style Yoga, which has helped her to deepen her understanding of life ever since. She started teaching on Koh Phangan in 2005, and in 2009 took over the task of reopening the Chiang Mai branch.
Although she enjoys teaching Yoga, her real passion lies in “playing” with energy, the study of Kashmiri Shaivism, meditation, and the practices of mind control. She particularly likes darkness retreats and pushing her borders a bit. She is thrilled to be given the opportunity by Swamiji to conduct retreats and pass on what she has learned from him.
