Healey, a Gemini, first became interested in Yoga when she was 17 years old. The passing years and her curious soul took her from Miami, Florida, where she was born and raised, to cities and communities throughout the United States, Israel, and Thailand. In those years, she studied musical theater, psychology, permaculture, Kabbalah, massage therapy, and eventually different styles of Yoga.
Curiosity has long been Healey's guiding compass. As a child, she used to read the encyclopedia for fun! She soon ventured beyond the pages of books to learn about communal living with a youth movement that showed her the meaning and importance of community, the beauty of nature, and the effectiveness of communication.
Healey was first exposed to Yoga and its healing properties in the autumn of 2002. As she began to practice, she noticed that not only was her body getting stronger, she was also feeling healthier mentally. She entered a Vinyasa Ashtanga Yoga teacher training course offered at one center and her Yoga education continued. The following years marked a difficult time in Healey’s life, but they brought her to the decision to learn to use her hands and the space she creates to help people heal their own bodies and she became a licensed massage therapist.
In July 2008, on one of her many trips to Koh Phangan, Healey discovered Agama Yoga. She stayed for the TTC and began teaching soon after. During the summer of 2009, she became sick and was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma; she soon went home for treatment.
Due to her time with Agama, Healey realized that, even though cancer is a scary diagnosis, she could deal with it and move on with integrity. Her Yoga studies gave her the foundation to fight the illness from a stable space and to allow the difficult treatments to do their job without causing too much emotional damage. She feels blessed to have had the opportunity to be here now and to see the strength the Universe can provide.
