Burkhard, born in 1977, grew up on the shores of a large lake in Southern Germany, in the foothills of the Alps. As a high school exchange student he also lived in upstate New York, USA, for one year. Afterward, he graduated from a German business school and worked as a tour guide at a medieval castle.
Together with his partner Kirsten he moved to the amazing city of Berlin, where he served handicapped people and explored the world of academics. He studied Critical Psychology, Philosophy, and Alternative Education at the Free University in Berlin. During this time he spent seven years in a small alternative community, where he lived in historic circus caravans around the ruins of an ancient lord's house.
Burkhard, a Libra, engaged himself in social activism and co-founded the development aid organization CAP, which supports rural communities in the highlands of Peru. Since his early 20s he has traveled extensively in Latin America and Asia.
During a journey to India in 2001, he began to discover the fascinating world of Yoga, studying at the Sivananda Ashram in Kerala. This led him to thoroughly analyze the Integral Theory of Ken Wilber, which attempts to combine Eastern and Western philosophies, science, and spirituality. His passionate research culminated in an academic thesis on integral development.
After working as a holistic tutor and personality coach, Burkhard went on another educational journey to Asia with Kirsten. On their spiritual quest they were blessed to discover the extraordinary teachings of Swami Vivekananda Saraswati and Claudiu Trandafir! They spontaneously decided to enroll together in the Agama Teacher Training Course and afterward opened an Agama Yoga branch in Berlin. Currently, they are supporting the Agama management as well as teaching and continuing their studies on Koh Phangan.
