ASHRAM - WE HAVE A DREAM! |
Agama would like to create a yogic spiritual community that would work hand-in-hand with our healing center. We conceive of this ashram as being community-based, especially in practice, a home for seekers of the Truth who can support each other and thus create an environment of aspiration disengaged from external strife and mundane disturbances. At the same time we hope this will become part of our network of teaching centers, a beacon of light in the world of Kali Yuga. Our plan is to create space for between 50 and 250 people to become part of this community. Ashram life would be based on the moral and ethical bases of Yoga, e.g., nonviolence, non-theft, etc., incorporating healthy eating and living models (vegetarian and drug-free), using ecological building principles as much as possible, natural sources of energy such as wind, solar, and hydroelectric, with biodynamic, self-sustaining agriculture and recycling, and aiming for a group-reliant yet independent financial picture. We hope a sizable surface of the land would be forested, possibly with a river for water energy, maybe hilly or mountainous, that it would be beautiful, poetic, inspiring. We envision an ashram with two meditation halls, a retreat room, library, and other spiritual practice facilities. For our purposes, we could use an old abandoned school, prison, hospital or clinic, children's camp, monastery, etc. We hope that perhaps structural funds, foundations, or other charitable trusts may sponsor this socially beneficial project. And, since Agama is a nonprofit organization, we have faith that our request will eventually be granted. Anyone who can help with information, paperwork, or who wishes to donate an earmarked sum in any amount, your assistance will be graciously appreciated! |
