GENERAL MANAGER’S COUNCIL

What is the GM’s Council?

In 2006, Swami Vivekananda officially passed responsibility and decision-making trust to his selection for general manager of Agama, Moses Maimon. This new direction was taken to give Swami the space needed to concentrate on the spiritual leadership of Agama instead of the endless minutiae involved in organizational administration.

In March of 2007, Moses sought to create an advisory body to assist the wise and spiritual oversight of administrative management. The Council is composed of Moses and his choice of three senior teachers with more than five years’ experience within Agama; these teachers advise Moses on request. The Council as a whole advises Swami on large-scale issues and seeks to lead the school in managing its growth and departments while simultaneously cultivating student happiness and spiritual prosperity.

The Council will respond to all student requests seeking guidance on issues or new directions. At the moment, such input can be directed to the Student Assembly as well.

Moses and the Council are responsible for:

  • all administrative decision-making for Agama Yoga
  • oversight of all management and teams
  • oversight of all growth and development
  • oversight of all administrative aspects of the Teaching Department
  • problem-solving and responsiveness with regard to student and teacher affairs
  • interfacing with Student Assembly, landlords, Koh Phangan leaders, Agama’s spiritual leadership
  • hall use approvals and policies
  • all resort and facility issues
  • etc....
