Koh Phangan is a gorgeous island, relatively undeveloped and thus offering many natural as well as cultural opportunities to visitors here. Some attractions include:
- Snorkeling at Mae Haad (Koh Ma), the most northwestern point of the island, with its just-offshore coral reef, as well as at other beaches.
- Diving instruction and certification; we recommend Haad Yao Divers (+66 (0)84 8412102), located next to the Agama Welcome Center.
- Paradise Waterfall: Follow Chaloklum Road (the middle road north from Thongsala) to signs indicating the waterfall’s location.
- If you wish to sauna, Ananda Yoga Resort has a brand new herbal sauna in addition to its swimming pool. Also Wat Pho’s herbal sauna (on the road to Haad Rin, turn left at the Baan Tai 7-Eleven, and you will see the Wat about 300 meters up on the left) is open 15.00-19.00 by donation.
- Largest tree on Koh Phangan: Located just 200 meters past Wat Pho.
- Bottle Beach: Reachable by boat only (take a boat taxi from Chaloklum pier), this beach is rumored to be one of the prettiest and most peaceful on the island.
- Seek out the footprint of King Rama V at the sacred pools and falls of Thaan Sadet in the northeast of the island.
- Haad Rin: Even more shopping opportunities than Thongsala, this pier town is also home to the monthly Full Moon Party (road to Haad Rin is very hilly – taxi recommended).
- Monthly Vipassana (mindfulness meditation) 10-day retreats at Wat Kow Tahm, located 4 km east of Thongsala.
- Thai massage is a specialty of this land – indulge yourself! We recommend Cosmic Energy, just near the Bovy entrance, as well as Big Mountain and Prana.
